Update on Alex's exciting new horses through 2010

At the beginning of 2010 Alex moved into his own yard, and decided the time was right to start looking for new owners and rides. With three advanced horses in work, he had plenty of time and effort to lavish on younger and less experienced horses. As a result Willow's Accent (Rodney), Violet, Armageddon (Arnie) and Furst Love(Freddie) joined Team China, each with different needs and goals, but each with an exciting future in front of them.

Willow's Accent is a bay 7 year old warmblood, whose owner wanted to focus on qualifying for the World Young Horse Championships in Le Lion. As one would expect, the qualification criteria for this championship were very demanding. A talented horse, but very strong over fences, Alex worked with him for three and a half months and achieved the required qualifications first off at Martinvast, Tweseldown and Pontispool, placing 8th and 5th in Rodney's first intermediates.

Beaurepaire Violet is a 4 year old mare with tons of talent and intelligence but very inexperienced.  She has really blossomed at Alex's yard, becoming business-like and focused. She is starting to swing through on the flat giving glimpses of the big floaty movement she will be capable of. She just completed her first ever jumping competition with two stunning double clear rounds. She took to cross-country like a duck to water, following Fiddle enthusiastically into the water as if she had done it every day of her life. She is now ready to make someone a very special competition horse. Violet's owner says: "I originally gave her to Alex to sell, but I am so thrilled with the way she is developing, I would be very happy to keep her with Alex if the perfect buyer does not turn up!"

Armageddon is a talented 3 year old stallion who was trained for racing but never ran. Alex is working with him gently on the basics with the objective of competing lightly next year in stallion rankings and young horse competitions.

Furst Love is a gorgeous warmblood 8 year old, who has focused on dressage, showjumping but loved his first attempt at eventing. His owner/breeder contacted Alex after watching him ride at Badminton. He is earmarked as Alex's future top four star horse. Previous experience has made him tense in the dressage arena, so Alex is working gently with him to help him overcome his anxiety. He has just started working through the British Eventing ranks with a fourth place in a BE100plus at Purston Manor.

Alex has also been invited to ride the exciting stallion, Grafenstotz. The only horse ever to get to the finals of the Bundeschampionat in dressage, showjumping and eventing, which he won.

Apart from watching their horses grow and develop with Alex, the owners have also enjoyed being part of Team China during the big competitions at Badminton, Burghley, Blenheim etc. There is always a picnic or a party, thrills and excitement, whatever the weather!

With Willow's Accent and probably Violet leaving the yard to new homes, and Jeans still on a very slow recuperation, Alex is now able to take on several more rides at any level.
