Hambleden's courses are designed to make the most of the natural features of the Estate's beautiful woodland and parkland.The Domesday book of 1086 lists Queen Matilda as the first owner of the manor of Hambleden, and the Earl of Sunderland built the manor house in 1603. The ownership of Hambleden and the neighbouring Greenlands estate then passed through a number of families until W H Smith MP, who had bought Greenlands in 1871, purchased the Hambleden estate and manor house in 1923, and chose to take its name,Viscount Hambleden.The feature films 101 Dalmatians, Sleepy Hollow and The Avengers were shot here.
